Title: Analytic theory of Hund's metals: a renormalization group perspective
(Submitted on 1 Jan 2014 (v1), revised 3 Jan 2014 (this version, v2), latest version 12 Jan 2015 (v3))
Abstract: We study the emergence of quasiparticles in Hund's metals. We derive a precise class of Kondo impurity models carrying both spin and orbital degrees of freedom, and show that the coupling of the impurity spin to the conduction electrons can be ferromagnetic. We derive the corresponding weak-coupling renormalization group equations for arbitrary representations of $SU(M)\times SU(N)$. We identify two regimes: high to intermediate energies are dominated by the renormalization of the orbital coupling while the ferromagnetic spin coupling is quenched, intermediate to low energies see the renormalization of the latter to ferromagnetic values and the subsequent establishment of the strong-coupling regime. This protracted renormalization group flow, which depends strongly on the impurity representation, results in a coherence scale $T^{J}_{\rm K}$ which is strongly reduced compared to the absence of Hund's coupling.
