Title: The Mar(e)k of QGP: Strangeness
(Submitted on 1 Jan 2017 (this version), latest version 6 Feb 2017 (v2))
Abstract: Strangeness signature of of quark-gluon plasma (QGP) is central to the exploration of baryon-dense matter: the search for the critical point and onset of deconfinement. In this lecture the discovery of QGP by means of strangeness is described. Several historical figures and their roles in this quest are introduced, and their roles delimited. The twisted path of the implementation of the statistical hadronization model is described. The reliable tool in study of hadron production from QGP, the SHARE suite of programs, is introduced. I explain how and why many published results of the past decade which did not employ SHARE are beset by computational errors. The strangeness content of a large fireball as compared to entropy content shows in a quantitative manner the presence of quark-gluon plasma degrees of freedom near the chemical QGP equilibrium. A universal hadronization condition that describes key features of all explored collision systems is presented.
