Title: Cooperation and dependencies in multipartite systems
(Submitted on 27 Mar 2020 (this version), latest version 1 Nov 2021 (v3))
Abstract: We propose an information-theoretic quantifier of the gain from cooperation that captures the degree of dependency between subsystems of a global system. The quantifier is distinct from measures of multipartite correlations despite sharing many properties with them. It is directly computable for classical as well as quantum systems and reduces to comparing the respective conditional mutual information between any two subsystems. Quantum secret sharing provides an exemplary cooperation task where this tool features naturally. While the quantifier satisfies most of common criteria for a measure of genuine multipartite correlations, it can be increased by local operations. We provide intuitive understanding of this effect and precisely characterize it via an inequality for the lack of monotonicity of conditional mutual information under local operations.
