Title: Room temperature coherent manipulation of single-spin qubits in silicon carbide with high readout contrast
(Submitted on 16 May 2020 (this version), latest version 8 Jul 2021 (v2))
Abstract: Spin defects in silicon carbide (SiC) with mature wafer-scale fabrication and micro-nano processing technologies have recently drawn considerable attention. Room temperature coherent control has already been done for ensemble of divacancy, but still lacking for single-spins level. Although room temperature single-spin manipulation of silicon vacancy defects has been demonstrated, the typical detected contrast is less than 2% and the photon count is also low. Here, we demonstrate the coherent manipulation of single divacancy spins in 4H-SiC with high readout contrast (30%) and high photon counts (150 kcps) under ambient conditions, which are in contention with the nitrogen-vacancy centres in diamond. Moreover, these single divacancy defects can be controllably generated. Since the high readout contrast is of outmost importance in many applications of quantum technologies, this work might open a new territory for SiC-based quantum devices with many advanced properties of the host material.
