Title: Long-Range Optical Wireless Information and Power Transfer
(Submitted on 30 Jul 2021 (v1), revised 28 Feb 2022 (this version, v2), latest version 6 Jul 2022 (v3))
Abstract: Simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) is a remarkable technology to support both the data and the energy transfer in the era of Internet of Things (IoT). In this paper, we propose a beam-compression resonant beam (BCRB) system for long-range optical wireless information and power transfer based on the telescope internal modulator (TIM). Utilizing the TIM, the resonant beam is compressed, making the beam be further concentrated. Thus, the transmission loss produced by the beam diverged will decrease, which enables the long-range SWIPT capability. We establish the analytical model of the BCRB system including end-to-end beam transmission, beam spot radius, the energy output power, and the spectral efficiency. Based on it, the performance on the beam-compression, energy delivery, and data transfer have been evaluated, and the influence of structure parameters on it has been analyzed. Numerical results illustrate that the exemplary BCRB system can deliver 6 W power and have 18 bit/s/Hz spectral efficiency over 200 m distance.
