Title: The Lagrange-D'Alembert Principle from the Viewpoint of ODE

Abstract: We construct the Lagrange-D'Alembert Principle as a pure mathematical theory that meets the modern standards of rigor. We note several new aspects of the Lagrange-D'Alembert principle but the article is mainly methodological by its substance. The article is addressed to specialists in ODE who are not experts in theoretical mechanics and to graduate students that specialize in dynamical systems.
