Title: Renormalization-Group Theory of 1D quasiperiodic lattice models with commensurate approximants
(Submitted on 27 Jun 2022 (v1), revised 27 Jul 2022 (this version, v2), latest version 9 Sep 2023 (v4))
Abstract: We develop a renormalization group (RG) theory to understand the localization properties of 1D quasiperiodic lattice models. The RG flow is induced by increasing the unit cell of subsequent commensurate approximants. RG fixed points correspond to exactly solvable models that may be characterized by their simplest commensurate approximant. This procedure is shown to recast many previously reported exact solutions of 1D quasiperiodic models and is used to generate new families of exactly solvable models. Generic models yield RG flows and highly non-trivial phase diagrams. By studying relevant and irrelevant perturbations, we show that phase boundaries of generic models can be determined with exponential accuracy in the approximant unit cell size. Our findings provide a unified understanding of widely different classes of 1D quasiperiodic systems; a way to fully characterize the localization phase diagram, including extended, localized, and critical phases and the transitions between these phases; and clear insights on how to create exactly solvable quasiperiodic models.
