Title: Superconductivity in epitaxially grown LaVO3/KTaO3(111) heterostructures
(Submitted on 11 Aug 2022 (this version), latest version 3 Nov 2022 (v3))
Abstract: Complex oxide heterointerfaces can host a rich of emergent phenomena, and epitaxial growth is usually at the heart of forming these interfaces. Recently, a strong crystalline-orientation-dependent two-dimensional (2D) superconductivity was discovered at interfaces between KTaO3 single-crystal substrates and films of other oxides. Unexpectedly, none of these oxide films was epitaxially grown, which raises a concern if or not the superconductivity can occur in an epitaxial counterpart. Here, we report the existence of 2D superconductivity in epitaxially grown LaVO3/KTaO3(111) heterostructures, with a superconducting transition temperature of ~0.5 K. Meanwhile, no superconductivity was detected in the (001)- and (110)-orientated LaVO3/KTaO3 heterostructures down to 50 mK. This superconductivity in LaVO3/KTaO3 heterostructures, compared with previous non-epitaxial ones, is much weaker, which we explain by a more diluted interface electron gas. In addition, we elucidate that the interface conduction is controlled by electron transfer from oxygen vacancies in LaVO3 film to KTaO3 substrate.
