Title: Edge and corner superconductivity in a 2D topological model
(Submitted on 24 Sep 2022 (this version), latest version 17 Oct 2022 (v3))
Abstract: We consider a two-dimensional generalization of the Su-Schrieffer-Heeger (SSH) model, which is known to possess non-trivial topological sectors in its phase diagram. The inhomogeneous superconducting phases for the attractive $U$ Hubbard model are studied using BdG mean field theory. In finite lattices with open boundaries, varying the chemical potential, one obtains phases in which the local pairing order parameter is much enhanced in the corners, or the edges, compared to the bulk, giving rise to effectively 0D or 1D superconducting pairing. At half-filling, with increasing temperature, the order parameters decrease up to a critical temperature $T_{c,PBC}$ beyond which the sample enters the normal state for an infinite sample. However, in finite samples at half filling, a nonzero pairing order subsists in the bulk at higher temperatures, up to the transition temperature of the corner site, $T_{c,corner}$, when the hopping amplitude ratio is in a moderate range. This suggests a non-trivial mixing of bulk and corner superconductivity, whose mechanism is elucidated here.
