Title: Collective and chaotic motion in self-bound many-body systems
(Submitted on 6 May 1999 (this version), latest version 28 Feb 2000 (v2))
Abstract: We investigate the interplay of collective and chaotic motion in a self-bound many-body system in the framework of classical mechanics. The two-body interactions cause a chaotic dynamics and lead to an equilibration of the many-body system. The damping rate of the collective mode is not determined by the Lyapunov exponent, and the dependence on the system size is rather mild.
