Title: Kinetic Theory of a Dilute Gas System under Steady Heat Conduction I
(Submitted on 1 Feb 2002 (v1), revised 25 Jul 2002 (this version, v2), latest version 15 Apr 2004 (v5))
Abstract: The velocity distribution function of the Boltzmann equation for hard-core molecules in the presence of a temperature gradient has been obtained explicitly to second order in density and the temperature gradient. We consider a nonequilibrium steady-state system in which two cells are filled with dilute gases and connected by a small hole; one of the cells is at equilibrium and the other is in a nonequilibrium steady state under steady heat conduction. Some macroscopic quantities are calculated from the velocity distribution function for hard-core molecules and compared with those for Maxwell molecules. We have found qualitative differences between hard-core molecules and Maxwell molecules.
