Title: Foam in a two-dimensional Couette shear: a local measurement of bubble deformation
(Submitted on 24 Jun 2003 (this version), latest version 26 Nov 2004 (v3))
Abstract: We re-analyse experiments of a two-dimensional foam sheared in Couette geometry [Debr\'egeas {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. {\bf 87}, 178305 (2001)]. We characterise the bubble deformation by a texture tensor. Our measurements are local in time: they evidence the distinction between a transient regime and a permanent one, where we have access to both the average and fluctuations of the anisotropy. Moreover, the measurements are local in space and show that the deformation is not localised, varying smoothly across the shear gap.
