Title: Conditions for one-dimensional supersonic flow of quantum gases
(Submitted on 1 May 2004 (v1), revised 5 May 2004 (this version, v2), latest version 18 Aug 2004 (v3))
Abstract: One can use transsonic Bose-Einstein condensates of alkali atoms to establish the laboratory analog of the event horizon and to measure the acoustic version of Hawking radiation. We use the hydrodynamic theory of the one-dimensional gas flow to determine the conditions for supersonic flow and the Hawking temperature for realistic condensates.
