Title: Role of surface anisotropy for magnetic impurities in electron dephasing and energy relaxation and their size effect
(Submitted on 11 Jun 2004 (v1), revised 11 Jun 2004 (this version, v2), latest version 21 Dec 2004 (v3))
Abstract: It was shown earlier that a magnetic impurity in a metallic host with strong spin-orbit interaction experiences a surface anisotropy of the form $H=K_d ({\bf n}{\bf S})^2$ which causes size effects in the spin-dependent quantities for impurities with integer spin. Recently the electron dephasing and energy relaxation due to magnetic impurities have been extensively studied by experiments. In this letter it is shown that the surface anisotropy influences these quantities in a very different way for integer spin having a singlet ground state. That must result also in a strong size effect and may solve the puzzle between the concentrations obtained from the two kind of experiments.
