Title: Low energy states and the nature of the pseudogap in doped Mott insulators
(Submitted on 1 Sep 2004 (this version), latest version 22 Apr 2005 (v3))
Abstract: We show low energy states in doped Mott insulators can be understood in terms of spin-charge confined and spin-charge separated states. We then propose a simple two band picture to address the momentum space anisotropy and the unconventional nature of pseudogap states found in the cuprate materials. This picture amounts to interpreting the sharp disparity between the nodal and antinodal regions in terms of the distinction between spin-charge confined and spin-charge separated phenomenology. Our results are consistent with the chargeless character of excitations observed in hole and electron doped cuprates around (pi,0) and (pi/2,pi/2) respectively.
