Title: Tensor renormalization group and the solution of classical lattice models
(Submitted on 27 Nov 2006 (this version), latest version 29 Dec 2008 (v2))
Abstract: We describe a simple real space renormalization group technique for numerically solving two dimensional classical lattice models. The method is purely classical, but it is based on the theory of quantum entanglement - in particular entanglement properties of one dimensional quantum ground states. In this sense, the technique can be thought of as a classical analogue of DMRG. We demonstrate the method - which we call the tensor renormalization group method - with the triangular lattice Ising model. We calculate the specific heat and magnetization to high accuracy in both the ferromagnetic and (fully frustrated) antiferromagnetic cases.
