Title: Flip Distance and Triangulations of a Ball

It is known that the flip distance between two triangulations of a convex polygon is related to the minimum number of tetrahedra in the triangulation of some polyhedron. It is interesting to know whether these two numbers are the same. In this work, we find examples to show that the two numbers are different in nature, and their ratio can be arbitrarily close to $\frac{3}{2}$.

Title: Knot concordance invariants from Seiberg-Witten theory and slice genus bounds in 4-manifolds

We construct a new family of knot concordance invariants $\theta^{(q)}(K)$, where $q$ is a prime number. Our invariants are obtained from the equivariant Seiberg-Witten-Floer cohomology, constructed by the author and Hekmati, applied to the degree $q$ cyclic cover of $S^3$ branched over $K$. In the case $q=2$, our invariant $\theta^{(2)}(K)$ shares many similarities with the knot Floer homology invariant $\nu^+(K)$ defined by Hom and Wu. Our invariants $\theta^{(q)}(K)$ give lower bounds on the genus of any smooth, properly embedded, homologically trivial surface bounding $K$ in a definite $4$-manifold with boundary $S^3$.

Title: Diagrams realizing prescribed sublink diagrams for virtual links and welded links

Jin and Lee proved the following: Suppose that $D_1, \dots, D_n$ are link diagrams. Given a link $L$ which is partitioned into sublinks $L_1, \dots, L_n$ admitting diagrams $D_1, \dots, D_n$ respectively, there is a diagram $D$ of $L$ whose restrictions to $L_1, \dots, L_n$ are isotopic to $D_1, \dots, D_n$, respectively. In this paper we show that a similar result does hold for welded links and does not for virtual links.

Title: Nonnegative scalar curvature on manifolds with at least two ends

Let $M$ be an orientable connected $n$-dimensional manifold with $n\in\{6,7\}$ and let $Y\subset M$ be a two-sided closed connected incompressible hypersurface which does not admit a metric of positive scalar curvature (abbreviated by psc). Moreover, suppose that the universal covers of $M$ and $Y$ are either both spin or both non-spin. Using Gromov's $\mu$-bubbles, we show that $M$ does not admit a complete metric of psc. We provide an example showing that the spin/non-spin hypothesis cannot be dropped from the statement of this result. This answers, up to dimension $7$, a question by Gromov for a large class of cases. Furthermore, we prove a related result for submanifolds of codimension two. We deduce as special cases that, if $Y$ does not admit a metric of psc and $\dim(Y) \neq 4$, then $M := Y\times\mathbb{R}$ does not carry a complete metric of psc and $N := Y \times \mathbb{R}^2$ does not carry a complete metric of uniformly psc provided that $\dim(M) \leq 7$ and $\dim(N) \leq 7$, respectively. This solves, up to dimension $7$, a conjecture due to Rosenberg and Stolz in the case of orientable manifolds.

Title: Differential Expansion for antiparallel triple pretzels: the way the factorization is deformed

For a peculiar family of double braid knots there is a remarkable factorization formula for the coefficients of the differential (cyclotomic) expansion (DE), which nowadays is widely used to construct the exclusive Racah matrices $S$ and $\bar S$ in arbitrary representations. The origins of the factorization remain obscure and the special role of double braids remains a mystery. In an attempt to broaden the perspective, we extend the family of double braids to antiparallel triple pretzels, which are obtained by the defect-preserving deformation from the trefoil and all have defect zero. It turns out that factorization of DE coefficients is violated quite strongly, still remains described by an elegant formula, at least for all symmetric representations.
