Chapters 9 and 10 are the lecture notes of its further continuation "Geometry of Linear Matrix Inequalities" from the winter term 2021/2022. These courses have been delivered at the University of Konstanz in Southern Germany. Title: A Generalization of Tepper's Identity

In this paper, we first give a simple combinatorial proof of Tepper's identity. Then, as a by product of this interesting identity we present another proof of the well-known Wilson's identity in number theory. Finally, we obtain a generalization of Tepper's identity for any polynomial with real coefficients.

Liouville's 1853 paper, in which he derived in closed form the general local solution of equation $u_{z\bar z}=\exp(u)$, is one of the few papers from the 19th century that 21st century mathematicians routinely quote as motivation for their work. We try and understand the reasons for the enduring importance of this paper. Our conclusions are the following: 1. Mathematics is not cumulative, but lost material may be recovered through examination of ancient works. 2. An apparent paradox is that the degree of dissemination of ideas and concepts among mathematicians is not determined only by geographic or social affiliation (countries, cities, scientific schools, etc.). On the contrary, the existence of common scientific goals makes it possible to transfer and use these concepts. 3. Older papers, because they are not influenced by modern classifications, can help generate ideas that do not arise naturally in a modern framework. Thus, a historical perspective can help bring about new mathematics and indeed, is a necessary dimension of mathematical research.

The work of S. Kichenassamy (1926-2015) in Theoretical and Mathematical Physics covers the spectrum of Relativistic Physics: from the clarification of the postulational basis of the two theories of Relativity, to applications to the measurement of proper time, image formation, collision theory, kinetic theory and radiative transfer, or pulsar electrodynamics, to name a few. After brief biographic remarks,we show, by following an argument first formulated in 1963, and developed in a series of papers, that the physical interpretation of General Relativity requires the replacement of the strong equivalence principle by the C-equivalence principle. By giving a mathematical status to the observer, his insight yields new results regarding measurements actual observers can make, both in Special and in General Relativity. Applications are outlined. His contributions to Indology will be discussed elsewhere.
