Title: Beyond the paradigm of motion: a counter-test of non-local realism
(Submitted on 31 Dec 2008 (v1), revised 18 Jan 2012 (this version, v20), latest version 3 May 2012 (v22))
Abstract: The experimentally-tested nonlocality of quantum mechanics seems incompatible with realism in the view of potential conflict with relativity. It is the essence of so-called quantum dilemma. This dilemma is a basis for the denial of realism which today is regarded as a fundamental attribute of microcosm. In this work, through an original experimental test we demonstrate that quantum dilemma is actually a fiction in the sense that quantum nonlocality cannot be opposed to relativity because the former is beyond the very paradigm of motion where the latter is merely meaningless. The test is based on the demonstration of a single-particle nonlocal transport which fundamentally does not imply a certain time spent in overcoming a certain distance. The transport is thus beyond the Lorentz transformations and hence does not lead to any causality paradoxes. It rests on the quantum-mechanical principle known as indeterminacy of the position of non-interacting particle in a quantum orbit. We carry out the test in integer quantum Hall system that contains orbit-like states of a macroscopic lengthscale. Along with the rehabilitation of the Einstein's realism, our test implies a renaissance of the Newton's concept of absolute time insofar as the procedure of quasi-instantaneous synchronization of remote clocks appears realisable without any conflict with relativity.
