Abstract: The ZFITTER project is aimed at the computation of high-precision theoretical predictions for various observables in high-energy electron-positron annihilation and other processes. The stages of the project development are described. Accent is made on applications to the analysis of LEP data. The present status of the project and perspectives are given as well.

Comments:	Dedicated to Pena Christova on the occasion of her 70th birthday. Version 2 has minor improvements, added references and a changed affiliation. Version 3 is published in Phys.Part.Nucl. 45 (2014) 3, 529-549 under the title "The ZFITTER project", the references are updated in May 2014. Online at SpringerLink this http URL
