Title: Helicity-protected domain-wall magnetoresistance in ferromagnetic Weyl semimetal
(Submitted on 13 Feb 2018 (this version), latest version 22 Jun 2018 (v2))
Abstract: The magnetotransport properties of disordered magnetic Weyl semimetals are investigated numerically using a simple lattice model. We found that in domain walls of Weyl semimetals, an extraordinarily stable and huge magnetoresistance effect is obtained. The conventional magnetoresistance effect is typically achieved in sandwiched structures of a nonmagnetic or insulating layer with ferromagnetic electrodes, and strongly suppressed in domain walls where local magnetization varies more gradually than that in multilayers. In contrast with the conventional case, the domain-wall magnetoresistance effect in Weyl semimetals maintains almost $100\%$ of the magnetoresistance ratio, even in the presence of sufficiently thick domain wall structures and even in the presence of disorder. This effect is understood to originate from less overlapping of the Fermi surfaces and the helicity mismatch of Weyl fermions, and is a specific transport property of Weyl semimetals. The contribution of the surface Fermi arc to the magnetoresistance is also discussed.
