Title: The Hall Number of Strongly Correlated Metals
(Submitted on 13 Feb 2018 (v1), revised 20 Feb 2018 (this version, v2), latest version 12 May 2018 (v3))
Abstract: An exact formula for the temperature dependent Hall number of metals is derived. It is valid for non-relativistic fermions or bosons, with arbitrary potential and interaction. Difficult computations of real-time response functions are avoided. Instead, the formula involves only equilibrium susceptibilities, which are amenable to well developed algorithms. An application to strongly correlated phases is demonstrated by calculating the Hall sign in the vicinity of Mott phases of lattice bosons.
