Title: Anyons from Three-Body Hard-Core Interactions in One Dimension
(Submitted on 29 Mar 2018 (this version), latest version 5 Dec 2019 (v4))
Abstract: Hard-core three-body interactions in one dimension create defects in configuration space. Because of these defects, configuration space is no longer simply connected and the possibility for anyonic physics arises. Traditional anyons in two dimensions have particle exchange symmetry described by the braid group. Analyzing the fundamental group of the configuration space for three-body hard-core interactions in one dimension, we discover an alternate generalization of the symmetric group governs particle exchanges. We call this new exchange symmetry the traid group and demonstrate it has abelian and non-abelian representations that are neither bosonic nor fermionic. Ultracold atoms in one dimension provide a possible implementation for this alternate manifestation of anyons.
