Title: Universality in coalescence of polymeric fluid drops
(Submitted on 28 Apr 2019 (this version), latest version 13 Oct 2019 (v2))
Abstract: We unveil universal temporal evolution of the necking radius during the coalescence of polymeric drops. Through high speed imaging we have demonstrated that drops of polyacrylamide (PAM), poly-vinyl alcohol (PVA), polyethylene oxide (PEO), polyethylene glycol (PEG) and xanthan gum (XG) depict a $R/\sqrt(\nu_0\lambda) \sim (t/\lambda)^{0.362}(C/C^{*})^{-0.827}$ over a dilute, semi-dilute and non-dilute range of concentrations. Notably, the limit of Newtonian fluids yields $R\sim t^{0.5}$. The results shed light into the early-time mechanism of the coalescence process in fluids.
