Title: Lefschetz-thimble inspired method superseding the Dykhne-Davis-Pechukas method for the transition probability in time-dependent two-level quantum systems
(Submitted on 29 Jul 2019 (this version), latest version 11 Nov 2019 (v3))
Abstract: Dykhne-Davis-Pechukas (DDP) method is a common approximation scheme for the transition probability in two-level quantum systems. It is known that the DDP method breaks down for some systems. We propose an alternative method based on a modern complex analysis inspired by the Lefschetz-thimble method. As a benchmark, we compare results from the DDP method and ours in the modified Landau-Zener model. Even in parameter regions where the DDP method is completely inoperative, we explicitly show that our method can reasonably approximate the probability obtained from direct numerical calculations.
