Title: Noether's theorems and the energy-momentum tensor in quantum gauge theories
(Submitted on 30 Nov 2021 (v1), revised 7 Apr 2022 (this version, v2), latest version 13 Dec 2022 (v3))
Abstract: The energy-momentum tensors for quantum electrodynamics and quantum chromodynamics are obtained through a systematic and consistent application of Noether's second theorem using local spacetime translations. When the transformation properties of the spinor and vector fields are properly accounted for, the energy-momentum tensor is automatically symmetric in its indices and invariant under the expected symmetries (e.g., BRST invariance).
