Title: Irreducible meanders

Abstract: In this article, we introduce a new geometric decomposition of meanders into prime factors (irreducible meanders). This decomposition makes it possible to express the number of meanders with a fixed number of intersections in terms of the number of irreducible meanders with fewer intersections.
