Title: Neel order and strong correlation in the doped two-dimensional Hubbard model
(Submitted on 19 Jul 2002 (this version), latest version 29 Dec 2003 (v2))
Abstract: We investigate the stability of Neel order and strong correlation effects in the doped two-dimensional Hubbard model. The stability of Neel order is examined in terms of a semiclassical staggered moment \tilde{S}. The doping concentration delta dependence of \tilde{S} is determined by solving the saddle point equations. The Neel ordered state is stabilized in the \tilde{S} > S_c = 0.19660 regime. Whereas in the 0 < \tilde{S} < S_c regime, Neel order is destroyed by quantum fluctuations. In the quantum disordered regime, we show that the low-energy effective action is reduced to an action which is equivalent to the action of the slave-fermion formalism of the t-J model. A quantum phase transition from the Neel ordered phase to the quantum disordered phase (an anomalous metallic phase) occurs at delta = delta_c at which S = S_c. Application to the high T_c cuprates is discussed.
