Title: The Role of Quantum Interference in Determining Transport Properties of Organic Molecules
(Submitted on 6 Sep 2002 (this version), latest version 26 Feb 2004 (v2))
Abstract: An analytic approach to the electronic transport phenomena through molecular devices is presented. The whole system, composed of two semi-infinite electrodes connected by a molecule, is described within tight-binding model. The transmission for finite bias voltage is calculated and the current-voltage (I-V) characteristics are obtained in dependence from the strength of the coupling. The essential question of quantum interference effects of electron waves is discussed in two aspects: the geometry of the molecular bridge and the presence of an external magnetic field. Some unusual features of the transmission functions (antiresonances, transmittance gap, bias-induced asymmetry) are predicted and considered in connection with I-V curves.
