Title: Quantum gas-liquid condensation in an attractive Bose gas
(Submitted on 27 May 2003 (this version), latest version 10 Aug 2007 (v2))
Abstract: The gas-liquid condensation (GLC) in an attractive Bose gas having a hamiltonian such as $H=\sum_{p}\epsilon _{p}a^{\dagger}_{p}a_{p}+(g/V)\sum_{p,p'}a^{\dagger}_{p} a^{\dagger}_{-p}a_{-p'}a_{p'}, (g<0)$ is studied on the basis of statistical mechanics. With decreasing temperature, the growth of the Bose-statistical coherence occurs. The followings are proved: (1) With decreasing temperature, prior to the Bose-Einstein condensation ($\mu (T_0)=0$), the Bose-statistical coherence gives rise to a divergence of the grand partition function at $T_c$, which is defined by $\mu (T_c)=-\sqrt {-(g/V)k_BT_c}$. (2) This is an onset of the GLC triggered by the zero momentum bosons, a quantum-mechanical analogue to the Mayer's model of the GLC in the classical gas. Compared with the classical GLC, an incomparably weak attractive force is enough for this GLC to occur, suggesting that this GLC belongs to a different type of GLC, {\it quantum GLC}. This paper corrects a defect existing in the previous paper (S.Koh, Phys.Rev.B, 64,1345219(2001)), and gives a right proof of the same conclusion using a recently-obtained result in the combinatorial mathematics.
