Title: Quantum Nondemolition Charge Measurement of a Flux Qubit
(Submitted on 13 Dec 2004 (this version), latest version 10 Mar 2005 (v2))
Abstract: In a qubit system, the measurement operator does not necessarily commute with the qubit's Hamiltonian, making the readout process destructive (demolishing) for the qubit's energy eigenstates. A quantum nondemolition (QND) readout scheme is proposed in which the charge of a flux qubit is measured. Despite the noncommuting nature of charge and flux, the measurement operator commutes with the qubit Hamiltonian in the reduced two-level Hilbert space.
