Title: Observation of unconventional superconductivity in quasi-one-dimensional superconductor Ta4Pd3Te16
(Submitted on 1 Apr 2014 (v1), revised 8 Jul 2014 (this version, v2), latest version 16 Mar 2015 (v5))
Abstract: While many unconventional superconductors are quasi-two-dimensional, such as high-temperature cuprate superconductors and iron-based superconductors, the quasi-one-dimensional (Q1D) superconductors also attract great interests. However, the superconducting pairing symmetry and mechanism of Q1D superconductors are still very controversial. Here we measure the low-temperature thermal conductivity down to 80 mK and resistivity under pressure of a newly discovered Q1D superconductor, the ternary telluride Ta4Pd3Te16 with Tc = 4.3 K at ambient pressure. The significant residual linear term k0/T in zero magnetic field and the rapid field dependence of k0/T clearly reveal nodes in the superconducting gap. With increasing pressure, the Tc first increases sharply to 6.7 K at 3.1 kbar, then decreases slowly to 1.8 K at 21.9 kbar, showing a superconducting dome. The existence of gap nodes and superconducting dome strongly indicates unconventional superconducting state in Ta4Pd3Te16, which will help to clarify the pairing mechanism of Q1D superconductors.
